The Atlas of Canada provides a number of search tools to help you locate information on this site. Search Our Site allows you conduct a simple search of The Atlas of Canada using keywords. This help document describes how to use the Simple Search.

Conducting a Simple Search
A simple search can be conducted using the entry box on every page in the site.
Instructions:
- Enter keywords in the Search Our Site text entry box. Examples of keywords are Winnipeg, aboriginal and income.
- Click the arrow symbol.
- Results of the search are displayed.
Search Results
The results of a search are divided into several groups. Potentially there are groups for Place Names, Maps and Text. The results for Place Names, assuming any are returned by the search, will always be displayed first by default.
1. Number of Item(s) Returned by the Search
This indicates the total number of items returned by the search.
3. Search Results
The three tabs below indicate the three main groups of search results and the number found within each group based on the keyword(s) you entered.
Place Name(s) Tab
This indicates the number of place name(s) returned by the search.
Instructions:
- Click on the Place Name(s) group title.
- A list of place names is displayed.
Map(s) Tab
This indicates the number of map(s) returned by the search.
Instructions:
- Click on the Map(s) group title.
- A list of maps is displayed.
Text(s) Tab
This indicates the number of text documents returned by the search.
Instructions:
- Click on the Text(s) group title.
- A list of text documents is displayed.
4. Individual Result of a Search
This area displays the individual items returned by the search.
Instructions:
- Click on the title of the item you wish to view.
- The selected item appears.
