This diagram shows the framework of forest management in Canada. The sequence begins with the provincial/territorial forest acts, regulations and legislation. The process then moves into licenses and the development of land-use plans, strategies, forest inventories, forest management agreements, and industry licenses. Then, 20-year management plans are produced. These specify allowable annual cuts, sustainable harvest levels and forest management. These are expanded into operating plans such as 5-year plans and annual plans. These plans are followed by provincial monitoring and inspection, which feeds back into the forest management agreements and industry licenses. Public input is taken into account for granting licenses, land-use plans, strategies and in the 20-year management plans.
