Existing bathymetric knowledge beyond the 200 metres contour off Canada's coastline is inadequate for determining precise depth contours. In the Canadian Arctic, bathymetric information is of a reconnaissance nature supplemented by track soundings from ships. Therefore the measurements listed in the tables should be regarded as interim figures until standard hydrographic surveys are completed for the entire region.
The tables below give the areas of land at certain depths off the coasts of Canada. These areas are termed bathymetric areas.
* 0 to 200 metres includes seamounts, rises, etc., lying to seaward of the coastal contour.
