Student Worksheet – Introduction to the Yukon Territory

Section A: Location, Location, Location!

In this section you will:

a. find out where the Yukon Territory is in Canada
b. record information about the Yukon Territory’s neighbours

1. Do the following steps:

a. Go to the Atlas of Canada Web site located at atlas.gc.ca and click on the English button.
b. Find the Explore Our Maps menu on the left hand column of the page.
c. Move your cursor over Reference Maps, then click on Provincial and Territorial in the pop-out menu.
d. On the new page that appears, click on the link to the Yukon Territory Map.
e. View the map as a JPEG.
f. A map of the Yukon Territory will appear on the screen.

2. Using the small map of Canada in the top left hand corner of the map write down the location of the Yukon Territory in Canada. (Hint: Is it in the north, south, east or west?)

1. Do the following steps:

a. Find the Explore Our Maps menu on the left hand side of the page.
b. Move your cursor over Reference Maps, then click on Canada in the pop-out menu.
c. On the new page that appears, click on the link to the Political Divisions (interactive) Map.
d. When the maps appears, click on the Zoom In button above the map, then on the Yukon Territory.
e. You will see a map of the Yukon Territory appear on the screen, it is different from the map used in Section A.
f. Use the information on the map and in the legend to answer the following questions.
