This diagram shows some of the potential impacts of climate change. An increase in temperature could affect precipitation, and lead to sea level rise. These changes would in turn have impacts upon health by influencing weather-related mortality, infectious disease and air-quality respiratory illnesses. Agriculture could see changes in crop yields and irrigation demands. The forests could see changes in composition, geographic range, as well as to their health and productivity. Impacts on water quality and supply as well as competition for water resources could arise. Coastal areas could be impacted by erosion of beaches, inundation of land and increased cost of protecting coastal communities. Finally, species and natural areas could see a loss of habitats and species, and an effect on the cryosphere due to diminishing glaciers.
