Audio Transcript: Between 1643 and 1661, Father Druillettes travelled widely in the lands north and east of Tadoussac and through the rugged country between the St. Lawrence River and the Atlantic coast. Unfortunately, few of his routes can be followed with any certainty as most of them were with native winter hunting groups. Departing Québec on 29 August 1646, he travelled south over the Kennebec River route to the Abenaki, first explored under orders of Champlain in 1628. He visited an English settlement as well as the Capuchin mission at the mouth of the Penobscot River on the Gulf of Maine. By 15 June 1647 he was back at Quebec. Two similar journeys were undertaken between 1650 and 1652.
