Audio Transcript of Jean de Quen (of Amiens, France; for France) 1647

Audio Transcript: In 1642, Father de Quen was placed in charge of the Montagnais mission at Tadoussac. In July 1647, he heard that the illness of some Montagnais converts had detained them from coming to the mission. On 11 July, he departed from Tadoussac up the Saguenay River in search of them. Five days later he reached the Riviere Métabetchouane on the south shore of Lac Saint-Jean, the first European to see the lake. After a visit of three days, de Quen made the return journey to Tadoussac, taking another three days.
