Audio Transcript of Charles Bayly and Pierre-Esprit Radisson 1670

Audio Transcript: In May 1670 Gillam, set sail for the New World in the frigate, Prince Rupert, in the company of the Wivenhoe, which carried Bayly and Radisson. The purpose of Bayly’s voyage was to establish a fort on the Nelson River, from which he would govern the newly formed Hudson’s Bay Company (established 2 May 1670); while Gillam was to travel to Charles Fort (later called Rupert House). The Wivenhoe reached Port Nelson with difficulty due to heavy fog and contrary winds which made finding the river entrance difficult.
