Audio Transcript of Henri de Tonty 1679
Audio Transcript: De Tonty served as La Salle’s lieutenant on the 1679 expedition to the western part of North America. They sailed together until separating at the Straits of Mackinac. Then De Tonty sailed down the eastern shoreline of Lake Michigan while La Salle sailed along the western shoreline. They met at Rivière Saint-Joseph [present-day St. Joseph River, MI] 1 November 1679.
