Audio Transcript of Daniel Greysolon de Dulhut 1680

Audio Transcript: In the spring of 1680, Dulhut in two canoes and five men left Sault Sainte-Marie in search of the Western or Vermilion Sea (thought to be Salt Lake), which the Sioux had said was twenty days travel from Lake Superior. On June 25, they reached the Mississippi River via the Sainte-Croix River, where he learned of the capture of Hennepin and his two companions. He successfully negotiated their release in September. The party returned to Michillimakinac via the Wisconsin and Fox Rivers, into Lake Michigan at Green Bay.
