Audio Transcript: Dulhut had established a trading post at the mouth of the Nipigon River near Lake Helen in 1679 with the collaboration of the coureur de bois in the area. The purpose of this post was to serve as a service centre for fur traders, trappers, and Aboriginal peoples in the area. A few years later it was abandoned. In 1683 to 1684 two alternate posts were built. One was at the mouth of the Ombabika River and the other was situated at the junction of the Konogami and Albany Rivers. The reason for this move was to prevent any traffic travelling downwater to the Hudson's Bay Company post at the mouth of the Albany River from getting through.
