Audio Transcript: In 1700 to 1701, Le Sueur spent 15 months exploring the upper Mississippi River. Based in the colony of Louisiana, Le Sueur, accompanied by 19 men in two boats, journeyed up the Mississippi and reached the mouth of the Rivière Saint-Pierre (in present-day Minnesota) on 19 September and continued to the Rivière Verte (now the Blue Earth River). Here they built Fort L’Huillier and returned in the spring of 1701 to Mobile (in present-day Alabama) with a cargo of furs.
