Audio Transcript of Christophe Dufrost de la Jemmerais and Jean-Baptiste de La Vérendrye (French) 1731 to 1732

Audio Transcript: On 8 June 1731, Jean-Baptiste de La Vérendrye led an expedition which departed from Montréal for the West. By late August, they had passed Michilimakinac and entered Lake Superior. At Rainy Lake, they built Fort Saint-Pierre and settled there for the winter, travelling to this point by way of Grand Portage and the Pigeon River. This was the first of many explorations that Jean-Baptiste de La Vérendrye and his sons would make in the next several years through territory stretching from the Saskatchewan to the Missouri Rivers.
