Age

The Canadian population is continuing an aging trend that has been going on since earlier this century. This aging is the result of two main factors: a decrease in fertility and an increase in life expectancy. This change in the age structure of the population has effects on everything from the diaper industry to educational services, the job market and shopping patterns. Most importantly, the expected increases in the number of elderly will affect the need for health services and will put a great deal of pressure on government pension funds. The trends that exist today help us to better understand the challenges of the future.
