Map Sources
The Atlas maps are composed of several layers of which there are two broad categories: thematic and base layers. Find below a description of each of the map layers. The layer source is included in the metadata.

Base Map Layers
- Atlas of Canada Framework Layers
- Base map components are features that provide a geographic
context for the thematic data shown on Atlas of Canada maps.
These features include rivers, lakes, administrative boundaries,
populated places, roads and rail lines. All of the Atlas of
Canada base map components are available for immediate free
download in five scales and in a number of data exchange formats.
The 1:7 500 000 and the 1:1 000 000 scale data are the primary base
frameworks used for all Atlas of Canada 6th Edition online
maps. You can download Atlas of Canada data from this Web
page on GeoGratis.

- This series, launched via The Daily for each of the eight major releases, includes a number of comprehensive analytical articles which will supplement day of release information. These catalogued articles provide an analytical perspective on 2006 Census topics.

- The 2006 Census Dictionary provides detailed definitions of the Census of Population concepts, universes, variables and geographic terms, including historical information to facilitate the comparison of variables between census years.
- Statistics Canada. 2006 Census Highlight Tables
- This page provides tables for population and dwelling counts; age and sex; families and households; languages, immigration and citizenship; Aboriginal peoples; labour, language used at work, place of work, commuting to work, education; ethnic origin and visible minorities; income, and earnings, and shelter costs. Available on each official day of release, the tables will present information highlights by topic via key indicators for various levels of geography.

- This series of cross-tabulations presents a portrait of Canada based on the various census topics. They range in complexity and are available for various levels of geography.

- These profiles present community-level information from the 2006 Census of Population. Users can search for an area of interest using the search engine provided in this site. Users can access data on population and dwellings, age, marital status, families, income, languages, immigration, education, labour force, income, and more.

- This page gives support material, such as data, reference material and lesson plans, for teaching and learning in schools at elementary, secondary and postsecondary levels.
