Naturally established forests stretch widely over Canada. The biodiversity and variety of different ecosystems found in these forests are precious and need to be protected and wisely managed. To protect the richness of forest ecosystems, protected areas, including parks, wildlife sanctuaries and wilderness reserves are designated by governments for conservation purposes. To ensure health and long term sustainability of forest resources, a model forest network has been established to study all forest components and their reactions to human activities
The two maps in this theme show the location and distribution of the model forest network and all the protected areas established in Canada.
