Abstract

Canada's Model Forest Program is an initiative to build partnerships towards achieving sustainable forest management. This network has eleven model forests.

Canada's Model Forest Program represents an initiative to build partnerships towards developing a program promoting the exchange of information to ensure the diversity and sustainability of forests locally, nationally and internationally. The goal of this program is to generate the exchange of new ideas, to combine new expertise and traditional knowledge, and to find on-the-ground solutions addressing local needs. These exchanges also help to better understand conflicting views between partners.

The network is composed of eleven model forests. Each model forest is a hands-on laboratory in which leading-edge techniques are researched, developed, applied and monitored. These forests are an example of sustainable forest management.
